A passion for wine,
built on serious study.

After retiring from a career of more than 25 years in the laboratory industry, Rob Ringenberg decided to pursue a long-standing interest in wine. He studied French and traveled to Paris to study Oenology at Le Cordon Bleu, completing the course as valedictorian. What began as an interest quickly became a passion—and the beginning of an entirely new journey.

Wanting to understand the world's great wine-producing regions in greater depth, Rob continued his education through several internationally recognized wine programs. He earned both the French Wine Scholar (FWS) and Spanish Wine Scholar (SWS) credentials through the Wine Scholar Guild, completing both with honors. He also completed the Argentina Wine Specialist (AWS) program through Napa Valley Wine Academy and Levels 1 and 2 of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET), passing Level 2 with Distinction.

Rob then pursued the sommelier path through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas (CMS-A). After achieving the highest score in his Introductory Sommelier class, he continued his studies, earning the Certified Specialist of Wine (CSW) credential through the Society of Wine Educators before passing the CMS-A Certified Sommelier examination on his first attempt.

Rob continues to study wine regions through coursework and firsthand experience, traveling to wine-producing regions whenever possible to better understand the places and traditions behind the wines.

Today, through The Cellar Sommelier, Rob brings that knowledge and enthusiasm to others through wine education and cellar consulting.
